2 Day Wet & Wild

This is the perfect weekend adventure get-away filled with unforgettable experiences and suitable for the whole family. The first part of our trail starts meandering down the ‘Great Orange’ river. During which you will be viewing an array of bird life, paddling and negotiating rapids while primarily being amazed at the setting, relaxing in the sun and cooling off with a swim in the river. After enjoying lunch on riverbank we make our way back to camp, to relax while dinner is being prepared by your guides. Day two of the trail is split in two parts. First we will go for a guided hike in the Richtersveld, see striking rock formations and caves, and get to see what the Richtersveld has to offer up close and personal. The second leg of the day will take us on a thrilling 4×4 trail into the Nababeep Conservancy. Explore the geological wonders and diverse collection of fauna and flora, many of whom have adapted in different and unique ways in order to survive this desert environment. We once again leave the mountains behind and slowly make our way back to camp for a wonderful bush-style dinner under a magnificent star-studded sky, the perfect ending to a truly special experience.

Day 2: 1-3 hour guided hike followed by a 1 – 3 hour Richtersveld 4×4 excursion (B.L.D) Sleep Chic Shacks

What to expect on a Full Day River Rafting Tour

You can expect introductory rapids, fast-flowing channels, and weirs along your way. The full day rafting trail is surrounded by working farms, granite rocks, lava deposits and reed beds along the banks of the river.  Extraordinary birdllife can be expected along this trip.  The Full Day Rafting Tour allows us to offer a picnic style Lunch on the banks or even an island along the Orange River.  This is a very relaxing introduction to the Orange River and suitable for all ages.  You will have ample photographic opportunities on this full day trail. A highlight on our full day rafting trail is our rock jumping underneath the yellow cliffs.  This is optional to those who seek a more adventurous approach.

What to expect on the Hiking Trail

Our camp is sandwiched between two mountain ranges and the Orange River. The Richtersveld hiking trails take an adventurous route exploring these rugged desert mountains. Hiking these rugged mountains and being on foot will bring you closer to understanding the Richtersveld Desert. Our Richtersveld hiking trails are all from our camp. We also offer 1-8 hour guided hiking trails. The perfect way to discover the large endemic succulent population of the Richtersveld. You can discover the indigenous Quiver trees ‘ Aloe Dichtoma” on your hiking trail as well.

What to expect on the 4 x 4 Safari

We explore the Nababeep Conservancy and introduce you to the only mountain desert in South Africa. We provide a guided safari vehicle and include mineral water on this trail. The Richtersveld is known for the volcanic mountains and indigenous succulent vegetation. The desert provides and extraordinary landscape with unique life and vegetation. Our customised safari vehicles offer a great viewpoint and access to this remote mountainous Richtersveld.

  • What are the youngest realistic ages for these trips? – We suggest from 5 years and older.
  • Is there malaria in this region? – The Orange River is a malaria free zone.
  • How far is the rafting trip? – Anything between 14 – 22km depending on the water levels.
  • When is High water? – Dec – April.
  • When is low water? – May – Nov.
  • How big are the groups? – min 4 people per group.
  • What is a Scheduled Departure?– These are confirmed departures.
  • What must I pack? – You will receive a packing list with every reservation.
  • Will my car be safe while I am on the trip? – We offer safe and secure parking at The Growcery Camp.

ADVENTURE SCHEDULE

Day 1

The Growcery Camp

Your Full Day Orange River Rafting Trail will start at 09;00am after breakfast where we will transfer you from The Growcery Camp to your starting point. You can expect to see incredible bird life and rock formations. Experience white water – rapids – and jumping off cliffs. Lunch will be  prepared by your guide and served picnic style on the river banks. After lunch, you will slowly start making your way back to The Growcery Camp where you can relax, have a warm shower or perhaps a drink at the bar. Dinner will be made on an open fire tonight and we will end off the day around the fire.

Day 2

The Growcery Camp – Hike – 4  x 4 Trail

After a healthy breakfast, you will head out for a 1-3 hour guided hike into the Richtersveld mountains followed by a 1 – 3 hour Richtersveld 4×4 excursion. Lunch will be served in between your 2 adventures of the day. You will experience incredible views and explore the only mountainous desert in South Africa. End off your exciting day with a drink around the fire, a home cooked meal and some good conversation.
